First Home Made Dinner!

Updated: Feb 5, 2019

It has been our second official day in Costa Rica, and as always there is always something to do, somewhere to go, and a new “jefe” to meet. We went to El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) which is the biggest provider for telecommunications, internet, and electricity in the country. We finally met with Krista Thiele which a few of our group members will be working with, and the rest of the department of seismology at ICE. After a brief overview of that they do, which is very impressive (the most surprising is that about 98% of the energy they use is renewable) we went to eat a quick lunch.

There was a presentation where a few members of ICE and RSN presented the most recent data of their research, as well as our mentor Dr. Vadim Levin presented our goals and prospects for this 18 month long project to our Costa Rican colleagues.

We had some cookies and coffee after the presentation and then a small group of us went to Walmart to get some groceries for the first dinner we prepared in Costa Rica. We had the best time making it under the leadership of Param and even a better time eating it. We hosted Krista, Cesar, and Vadim and I think they enjoyed the dinner we made. Overall the night ended on a good note because we witnessed our first tropical rain, hopefully they’re only at night where we are inside.

Jon and I met with Jaime again and made a lot of progress with our program! We were able to figure out how to code an earth tide correction and found another program to help us figure out if we are on
